The first still of Fifty Shades Darker is out and it has Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) hiding behind a mask. There may be several reasons why Christian would wear a mask: after Fifty Shades of Grey, maybe he is too embarrassed to show his face, or maybe someone just showed him Krrish. Or maybe he's hoping the mask will make Hollywood consider him for a superhero movie. All coherent explanations, but none of them explain why he looks so bored in the photo.
In case you were wondering, Fifty Shades Darker will come out in 2017. Yes, that's two years away. So why this "teaser"? Fifty Shades of Grey's Blu-ray release is almost upon us (8 May).
There were rumours that Dornan, much like the maker of the first film, Sam Taylor-Johnson, did not want to be a part of the sequel. However, unlike Johnson, Dornan can't get out because of his contract, according to the gossip mills. Both he and Dakota Johnson have also reportedly demanded a pay hike after Fifty Shades of Grey became a huge worldwide hit.
Taylor-Johnson has confirmed her exit from the franchise."While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three," Taylor-Johnson said in a statement, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Apparently, Taylor-Johnson had a tough time with writer EL James, who wrote the bestselling trilogy. In line with the director's exit, it was reported that screenwriter Kelly Marcel will also not be returning for the sequel. James's husband Niall Leonard has come on board "Team Fifty" to write the sequel.
All this off-screen drama hasn't delayed the shooting of Fifty Shades Darker. It's sticking to its schedule and will kick off in the first quarter of 2016 as planned, with Dornan and Dakota Johnson reprising their roles.
